MBA Courses I have taught or I am currently teaching:

ACC 438 Auditing II: Auditing and Information Systems
Accounting and payroll were the earliest uses of computers in businesses. Today information systems form the heart of all business accounting. Auditing today invariably involves the examination of information systems that are used to implement accounting systems. This has become a special focus after the enactment of the Sarbanes Oxley Act which was enacted after spectacular accounting frauds at companies such as Enron. We will start this course by examining auditing fraud from an internal auditing and external statement analysis perspectives. Armed with this knowledge, we will begin to take a look at critical information system infrastructure to study its weaknesses, potential for harmful intervention and how to avoid it. We will also discuss disaster planning, backups, audit trails and related topics. Computer security will be a particular focus in the latter part of the course.

STR 422 Strategic Decision Making: Theory and Practice
This is the MBA Game Theory course. It focuses on the elements of game theory needed for managerial decision making. Topics covered include dominant strategies, Nash equilibria - pure and mixed, games with imperfect infromation, and signaling games. Numerous examples from Marketing, Finance, Operations and IS are used to illustrate the concepts.

CIS STR 413 Economics of Information Management
Most information management problems are neither purely technology problems and nor are they purely organizational issues. The solution to them lies in understanding the organization issues that surround technological decisions and choices. This course, which is targeted to students who have finished the core courses, builds on CIS and STR courses to provide the students with concepts and methodology for managing information systems in organizations. Topics include: Introducing new technology in organizations, chargeback policies, IT standards, Intellectual Property laws, Interorganizational systems, etc.

CIS FIN 446 Financial Information Systems
This course, devoted to applications of information technology in finance, proceeds along two tracks. In lectures we will examine the role of information systems/technology in financial markets, financial services, and to a lesser extent corporate finance. In the assignments we will focus on financial modeling using Excel and other computer tools. Lectures: The first part of the lectures is devoted to providing a theoretical and practical examination of the financial markets (NYSE, Nasdaq, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and various international exchanges), their information systems, and how technology is changing them and their competitors. We will examine automated trading systems such as ECNs, the Arizona Stock Exchange, Globex, Optimark, and mechanisms for online IPOs. The second part of the lectures focuses on the impact of electronic commerce technologies. The key technologies and their use by financial institutions are examined. The third part of the lectures is focused on uses of IT in corporate finance. We will study how a financial controller obtains information and makes decisions for short term financial management. We will focus the use of information technology and financial engineering on cash flow management, integration between operational and financial planning, and risk management.

ECM CIS 440 Electronic Commerce Strategies
The new course covers electronic strategies for business to business and consumer ecommerce. This includes strategies for protecting market share by going online, ameliorating online competition using network effects and customer lock in, positioning against other online presence, dealing with dis-intermediation and re-intermediation, developing online communities for business or consumer ecommerce, and managing supply chain and customer relationships.

ECM CIS MKT 437 Marketing on the Internet
The Internet provides unforeseen opportunities for the marketer to communicate with customers, dynamically respond to market conditions, offer new products and distribute them in novel ways. This course is about integrating these new technological capabilities into the marketing mix and strategy for the new organzation. This course draws heavily on CIS and MKT courses.

ECM CIS 435 Managing Electronic Commerce
New technolgies and new challenges for managers go hand in hand. This course provides the students with concepts and skills in Electronic Commerce related technologies and management issues. Technologies include Internet infrastructure, Intranet and Extranets, web client and server, scripting on both client and server, and database integration. Hands on projects and lectures are used to provide the skills, and concepts, respectively.

Business Process Analysis and Design - process oriented analysis of organizations, reengineering processes, change management and related technologies.
