Professor McDevitt’s research focuses primarily on the field of empirical industrial organization. He has conducted large-sample analyses of firms’ responses to changes in their reputations, and of the correlation between a firm’s name choice and its quality. In a separate line of research, Professor McDevitt and his co-authors have estimated structural models of differentiation and entry in various markets, including health care and venture capital. In addition, Professor McDevitt has collaborated with Shane Greenstein at Northwestern University on several policy papers related to the deployment of broadband Internet, both domestically and abroad.
Previously, Professor McDevitt taught competitive strategy at the Kellogg School of Management and was an analyst in Morgan Stanley’s Investment Banking Division.
