Medical Breakthroughs: Parkinsons

Parkinson’s patients have a new treatment option that will save them and their caregivers the time and effort involved in getting to doctor appointments while preserving and enhancing the quality of care they receive. A new study by Simon Graduate School of Business (University of Rochester) professor Abraham Seidmann, Dr. Ray Dorsey of the University of Rochester Medical Center Neurology Department, and Dr. Kevin Biglan of Johns Hopkins, shows that Parkinson’s patients can dramatically reduce the number of office visits through telemedicine or visiting their doctor from home or nursing home on a laptop or home computer via Skype. The study found that clinically, economically, socially, and emotionally, patients who participated in the study experienced superior outcomes through telemedicine than an in-person visit to the doctor’s office.

Professor Seidmann is available to do live or taped broadcast interviews from our on-campus TV studio with satellite uplink through VideoLink in Newton, MA, or phone interviews for print and online media. To book an interview, contact Charla Stevens Kucko, Simon School director of Marketing and Communications/Media Relations at (585) 273-4806 or e-mail charla.kucko@simon.rochester.edu.
