Full-Time MBA Curriculum

The Full-Time MBA degree requires 67 hours of study consisting of a total of 20 classes (nine core required courses and 11 electives) and an additional three credit course on Communicating Business Decisions. Entrants in September complete the MBA course requirements in six 10-week academic quarters with an internship in the summer between the first and second years of study. The January entrance option allows candidates to complete the full-time program in 18 months (six consecutive quarters).

Core Curriculum - 1st Year of Study

The core curriculum is completed over the first three quarters of the program. Core courses include:

  • ACC 401 Corporate Financial Accounting
  • CIS 401 Information Systems for Management
  • FIN 402 Capital Budgeting and Corporate Objectives
  • GBA 411 Framing and Analyzing Business Problems I
  • GBA 412 Framing and Analyzing Business Problems II
  • MKT 402 Marketing Management
  • OMG 402 Operations Management
  • STR 401 Managerial Economics
  • STR 403 Economic Theory of Organizations
  • In addition, full-time MBA students are required to take the Communicating Business Decisions course sequence.

FACt Curriculum

Corporate recruiters say they are looking to hire MBAs who can solve unstructured business problems and present workable solutions. The Simon School’s Frame, Analyze, and Communicate (FACt) curriculum equips students with exactly those skills.

  • Frame the problem - Break down a large, ambiguous question into smaller sub-problems
  • Analyze the problem - Find relevant data, form and test hypotheses, to reach a conclusion
  • Communicate the implications of your analysis - Persuade others of your conclusion

Simon faculty introduced two required core courses (Framing and Analyzing Business Problems 1 and 2) that replace the program’s traditional statistics study. This sequence teaches you how to approach solving unstructured problems in a logical and empirical way, while introducing statistical tools and concepts. The Communicating Business Decisions sequence of the MBA program provides the “Ct” (communicate) piece of the curriculum, training you in the principles and standards for written and oral communication needed for a successful business career.
