The University ID, commonly referred to as URID, is assigned to each student and is used throughout the University of Rochester community. You will need to supply your URID on your health insurance forms, to order your laptop through Dell, for communication with the Bursar's Office, and for other school and University related activities.

When: You will receive your URID approximately seven business days after you pay your enrollment deposit.

How: The URID is automatically assigned and communicated by the University of Rochester. Login instructions and details will be sent to the personal email provided on your Simon application.


The NetID is a private key to a variety of online services available to you at the University of Rochester. This service is part of a University authentication measure to ensure that accounts are managed securely across campuses.

When: You can obtain a NetID after you receive your University ID.

How: After you have received your URID, go to and follow the instructions to obtain your NetID.


Your Simon email account will be the primary source of contact from the school. While Admissions will continue to use your personal email account supplied on your application until Orientation, please be advised that other departments (Benet Career Management Center, Bursar's Office, Office of Student Engagement, etc.) may use your Simon email account as a means of communicating important information even before Orientation, so please check it regularly prior to your arrival to Rochester.

When: You will be assigned a Simon email account by the University of Rochester Information Technology (URIT) department about fifteen business days after you have paid your enrollment deposit.
