Experiencing Careers in Product Management

This session will provide a foundational understanding of the role(s) of a product manager. This includes the critical soft and hard skills of a successful product manager; the typical criteria for hiring a new product manager; alternative paths to a product manager role; key skills/knowledge areas valued, criteria for hiring and related function; interviewing expectations and functional knowledge sources. Students will then deepen their understanding of Product Manager responsibilities by tackling a “real world” issue and getting direct feedback on findings/recommendations from the professional working at the company the case is based on.

This session will provide basic knowledge of potential opportunities and career paths in Pricing including external consulting and internal strategy roles secured by Simon MBA candidates based on the specialized knowledge areas and skills obtained through Simon programming. International Student Orientation Program

The International Services Office (ISO) virtual orientation will supplement the online pre-arrival orientation by providing opportunities to think more critically about and understand key aspects of studying at the University of Rochester as an international student. Sessions will be offered to students who intend to begin their program of study from within the United States as well as to students who will begin their program of study online from abroad. All international students matriculating in Fall 2020 for a new UR program of study are expected to attend. This includes students pursing an Immigration Transfer from another US institution or a Change of Level at the University of Rochester, especially given the changing immigration landscape for F-1 and J-1 students during COVID-19.

The Importance of Communication in the Job Search

Good communication is an essential tool in achieving productivity and maintaining strong working relationships at all levels of an organization. Employers who invest time and energy into delivering clear lines of communication will rapidly build trust among employees, leading to increases in productivity, output, and morale in general. Meanwhile, employees who communicate effectively with colleagues, managers, and customers are always valuable assets to an organization and it is a skill that can often set people apart from their competition when applying for jobs. Clinical Associate Professor Carol Shuherk, the lead coordinator of the Management Communication Course (MGC401) joins us to discuss key communication concepts conscious management of nonverbal communication and intentionality in structuring and choosing language for verbal communication in person and virtually.

Return to Campus: COVID-19 Campus Safety Training

This module is designed to ensure that everyone understands the operational and procedural changes the University has made in response to COVID-19, as well as explains the personal precautions that University community members are expected to take in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including adhering to face covering and social distancing guidelines.

This training is mandatory for all students. Please complete it by Saturday, August 1, 2020.

The training is available on Blackboard. It is a stand-alone module that you will see on the homepage of Blackboard.

The COVID-19 Safety module needs to be completed before starting to use the Dr. ChatBot health screening app, but the training does not automatically enroll you in Dr. ChatBot—separate instructions for starting to use Dr. ChatBot will be forthcoming by email.
