ID Cards

Students need an ID card to gain access after-hours to Gleason Hall and Schlegel Hall (Regular hours are 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.). An ID card is also required to use the library and sports facilities and to gain admission to some University of Rochester activities.

To get an ID card, students must bring one form of identification to the ID Office and be a registered student. For more information on obtaining an ID card, please contact the University of Rochester ID Office directly:

University of Rochester ID Office

Students will receive ID cards during their orientation.

Dining on Campus

Students may allocate funds to their ID cards which can be used at all on campus dining venues. This convenient option may allow for quicker checkouts at busy dining outlets. The most popular on-campus dining options are:

  • The Pit Food Court
  • Douglass Dining Center
  • Danforth Dining Center

More information about on-campus dining venues can be found here.

All texts for Simon courses are available at Barnes & Noble, Inc. located in College Town at the corner of Mt. Hope and Elmwood Avenues. In addition, you can order your textbooks through the campus bookstore. For your convenience, it is also typical for the UR Bookstore to sell Simon books for core courses in Gleason Hall during the first week of classes.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. hours are published on their website. Please call (585) 275-4011 with questions.

If you choose to purchase your textbooks at another location, you may find the book information (title, author, edition, etc.) you need on the campus bookstore website above. Information will not be available, however, until faculty have placed the orders for their textbooks and supplemental materials.

Note: There may be additional materials, such as cases, solutions manuals, CD-roms, etc., that may also be required by the professor. The University Bookstore packages the additional materials with the textbooks (called a "bundle") at a discounted price unavailable anywhere else. Please take this into consideration when deciding on when and where to purchase textbooks. If you are uncertain as to what to purchase, we recommend you wait until the first day of class to clarify the requirements with the professor.

Campus Tobacco-Free Policy

The University of Rochester is tobacco free both inside and outside campus buildings. This policy includes a provision allowing tobacco, e-cigarettes, and vaping in a small number of outdoor smoking shelters on the River Campus.
