Do I have to take the GMAT and/or GRE?

Yes. All applicants are required to take either the GMAT or the GRE.

Do you have standardized test score minimums?

Each candidate receives a holistic evaluation of all aspects of the application carefully reviewed. Simon values diversity in our student body and the Admissions Committee is actively seeking candidates who can make unique contributions during and after their study. While we do not have any test score minimums*, admission is competitive and we encourage you to review our MBA and MS selection criteria. Additionally, you can refer to our MBA and MS class profiles to learn more about our currently enrolled students.

What are the requirements for submitting my test scores?

All scores are submitted electronically through the online application

  • When submitting GMAT scores, use the "Official Test Taker Copy"
  • When submitting GRE or TOEFL scores, use the "Examinee Score Report"
  • When submitting IELTS scores, use the "Test Report Form"

Official exam results only need to be mailed to us if you are offered admission, or if your scores will expire prior to the start of your program. If any of your exam results will expire before the start date of the program to which you are applying, you should provide your official paper scores to us at the time you submit your application, or you will need to retake the exam.

Do I have to take the TOEFL or IELTS?

The TOEFL/IELTS exam is required for all international applicants whose native language is not English. This requirement is waived for applicants who meet the following conditions prior to matriculation at Simon:

Attended three or more years of post-secondary education taught solely in English and received a baccalaureate or master’s degree from a college or university where English was the language of instruction.

If you qualify for the waiver, in the application enter "0" in place of actual test scores, enter “01/01/1900” in place of an actual test date, and upload a document stating "I meet the TOEFL/IELTS waiver requirements" in place of actual supporting documentation.

If I qualify for a TOEFL/IELTS waiver, can I submit an InitialView interview?

Yes. We strongly encourage applicants to complete the InitialView interview and writing sample. While this is not a required component of the application, it is an excellent way to add another dimension to your candidacy that the Simon Admissions Committee will use as part of the holistic review of your application.

May I submit a screenshot of my TOEFL/IELTS score report?

Yes. Screen shots of TOEFL/IELTS scores will be accepted as appropriate supporting documentation. Upload a full screen shot (including name and address) or scanned copy of your online TOEFL/IELTS score report into the application.

If my TOEFL/IELTS is expiring, do I need to take it again?

TOEFL/IELTS scores expire two years from the test date. Your application must be submitted prior to the test expiration date. If your score will expire shortly after your submission date, have an official score report sent to yourself and our office before the test expiration date. ETS and IELTS will not send an official score report after expiration.

Can I submit my application without uploading my test score report?

No. An application without the required test score report attached will be considered incomplete, and will not be reviewed. Ensure that all proper support documentation has been successfully uploaded to your application before submitting.

The Admissions Committee will only consider documents that are included in your online application. We do not accept official paper test score reports at the time of applying, and therefore will not be checking for receipt of your official scores until after an offer of admission has been made.

The only exception is for applicants applying to our Part-Time MSBA Medical Management program, for which test scores are optional.

I retook my GMAT/GRE/TOEFL/IELTS after submitting my application. How do I provide you with my updated scores?

If your application is submitted, but “Incomplete”, and therefore not under review by the Admissions Committee, there are two options:

  • You can choose to have your application updated. Contact the Admissions Office to have your updated scores added to your application. If you choose this option, your submission date will be modified to reflect the date the update was made, and processed accordingly (e.g. you will not be guaranteed a decision by the notification date of the original round for which you had submitted).
  • You can choose not to submit your new score. Your application would stay within the application deadline for which you had originally submitted.

If your application is “Complete” and under review by the Admissions Committee, there is only one option to update your application:

  • If you are invited to interview, you may provide your updated scores to the Scheduling Coordinator or email them to noting in your email the date and time of your interview.

How long is my GRE score valid?

  • For individuals testing on or after July 1, 2016, GRE test scores are valid for five years after your test administration date. For example, scores for a test taken on July 3, 2016, are reportable through July 2, 2021.
  • For individuals who tested between August 1, 2011, and June 30, 2016, GRE test scores are valid for five years after the testing year in which you tested (as indicated in the GRE® Information and Registration Bulletin from that testing year). For example, scores for a test taken on May 15, 2015, are reportable through June 30, 2020.
  • GRE scores earned in July 2011 are reportable until July 31, 2016.
