“I had been working in the Audiology department at Strong Hospital for almost four years. A couple of colleagues had gone through the medical management program and had really good things to say about it. I thought it would be good for me to get some business background since I had to make a lot of purchasing decisions that would impact the business. About halfway through the program, my husband (also an audiologist) and I decided to start our own practice. The skills I gained in finance, marketing, and operations were a lifesaver. Going through the program was probably one of the best decisions that I have made given what was happening professionally for us. I wouldn’t change that decision for the world.”

Megan Glaspie was working as an audiologist at Strong Hospital for four years when her colleagues highly recommended Simon’s medical management program. Megan thought it would be good for her to acquire more business knowledge and skills since part of her job was to make purchasing decisions that impacted the business.

Halfway through the program, Megan and her husband, who is also an audiologist, decided to go into private practice with two locations in Geneva and Canandaigua, NY. “I needed to understand how my decisions would impact the financial health of the business,” she says. “I would highly recommend the program for anyone who has any sort of decision making role in the business. I wish we had more business classes while I was studying to be an audiologist. I would say that 90 percent of audiologists in private practice across the country have no business background and are flying blind. It’s scary!”

Megan’s business is growing and as any entrepreneur will attest, it’s not a 9 to 5 job. “I’m involved in all aspects including financials, marketing, social media, and operations. Right now, as far as providers go, it’s just my husband and me seeing patients 40 hours a week. We work on management of the business nights and weekends when we can fit it in.”

Megan says the hard work is definitely paying off. The practice is growing and her goal is to eventually expand to a third location and hire more staff. “It’s been a busy couple of years for me, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
