Team Projects

Past Team Projects

The Medical Management program is designed to build your business management skills with real world, practical learning you can immediately apply to your career. As part of the Simon MS degree, we will coordinate a project-based practicum within a health organization to help you build your skill set and professional network.

You will complete a hands-on, team-based project at a health care organization to apply the concepts you have learned in the classroom. The projects begin in late summer and are completed in mid-Winter. Projects are chosen with input from the senior leadership at each organization, with consultation from the faculty director at Simon Business School.

Past project examples:

  • Developed a financial model to analyze the profitability and productivity of laboratory draw stations. Included breakeven and productivity analysis by site. Recommended an ongoing balanced scorecard matrix.
  • Analyzed multiple options to reduce costs in response to a Medicare initiative to reduce pressure ulcers. The project was used by administration in budget preparation and decision-making.
  • Evaluated the implementation of robotics in hospital pharmacy operations and identified opportunities to leverage the technology to reduce costs and stockouts.
  • Devised a new scheduling protocol for anesthesiologists in electrophysiology procedures, which conformed to emerging best practices and improved the financial performance of the service.
  • Developed a new business model to deliver dental care to underserved school children that will provide superior access to care while lowering operating costs.
  • Created a marketing plan for laboratory testing services, which focused on identifying customer needs and expectations and increasing awareness of available services among target audiences.
