What’s one thing you wish alumni understood about today’s Graduate Business Council (GBC) and how it supports the Simon community?
I wish that alumni would do their best to put themselves in the shoes of the students these days. Students face relatively bleak graduation circumstances compared to many of those before us. At GBC, we would like to do whatever possible to alleviate some of the stress and struggle that comes with attending an MBA program and competing in cutthroat job markets. Anything helps, especially the little things!
As a GBC leader, what is one priority you are most excited to advance for students this year?
I am excited to help advance some of the more entrepreneurship-focused initiatives and opportunities. I want to encourage students to think outside the box of what gainful employment might mean for them. There’s a whole world outside of the traditional corporate pipeline; let’s explore that.
What has been the best part of your Simon experience so far?
Hands down the community. It’s a small school. It’s easy to know everyone and you see many familiar faces day in and day out. Not to mention it’s hard not to become fast friends when you’re deliriously studying data analytics at 11pm together for a week straight. That and strategy classes!
Tell us about an internship or experiential learning project that positively shaped your professional journey.
My current internship has proven to be extremely valuable. I have a wide degree of freedom to shape what I work on and my company (Artisan Skateparks) has placed a good deal of faith in me. It’s done very well to ingrain what I’ve learned over the last year and give me the confidence to move forward.
Share a bit about your career plans or, if applicable, what scholarship support has meant to you personally and professionally.
Artisan Skateparks has offered me a more permanent role and a bit of a partnership role moving forward throughout and after the next school year. I’m particularly excited about that and about growing my own skatepark design/build firm, Sinuous Skateparks, as a partner of Artisan.
