I've become an active member in the venture capital fund. This is an actively run venture capital fund by the students at Simon. It's been an amazing opportunity. We are looking at real companies, we're building relationships with real entrepreneurs, and we're actually making real investments.
Strong Consulting Program

Originally from the Aloha State, Mikayla Hart graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a double major in finance and international business. After graduation, she worked as a financial analyst and accountant for Rip Curl North America. While Mikayla enjoyed working for the world-renowned surf company, she knew she wanted a change. “I guess I knew it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do,” she says. “I wanted to have a different type of career that was more project-based. I knew I was interested in consulting and thought an MBA would be a great way to get me there.”

Mikayla first learned of Simon through The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management—the nation’s largest diversity network linking top-tier students with leading MBA programs. “I researched Simon and it looked like a really great program,” she says. “What really sold me were visits to campus for the Scholarship and Experience Simon Weekends.”

During those visits, Mikayla says she realized Simon’s smaller size also fit her career goals. “I was looking for a school that fit with me and my personality,” she says. “I wanted to go into consulting so it also needed an excellent program that offered the right classes. Simon had it all.”

Mikayla interned as a summer strategy consultant at Accenture, a position she secured through her own hard work and some important help from Simon’s Career Management Center (CMC). “[CMC staff] helped me update my résumé, research different career paths, and prepare for the Consortium career fair and expo in June. I really credit the CMC for helping me land my internship.”

As a Simon student, she and several of her classmates restarted Simon’s chapter of Net Impact, a national organization that focuses on social impact and sustainability through business. “It’s a great way for people to come together and talk about their passions,” she says. “It gives people the ability to engage in conversations that they might not otherwise have in business school. I’m very happy to be able to help foster those conversations.”
