Simon helps student entrepreneurs turn ideas into ventures

Student founders tap Simon expertise to develop their startups 

Three student-founded startups featured in a recent URochester News Center story highlight the important role Simon Business School plays in helping entrepreneurs move innovative ideas from concept to commercialization.

Through the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Ain Foundry, student entrepreneurs worked alongside Simon faculty, MBA students, and mentors to strengthen their business strategies, refine their pitches, and prepare their ventures for growth.

Biomedical engineering graduate Timothy Guida is developing a surgical guidance device for hip replacement procedures through his startup, Guidus Medical. He credits Simon MBA students and entrepreneurship mentors with helping him think beyond engineering to manufacturing, reimbursement, intellectual property, and FDA approval as he developed Guidus Medical.

Doctoral student Karthik Ramakrishnan worked with Simon Executive Professor Roberto Colangelo to refine the business strategy for Scyntek, a startup developing a wearable device designed to detect potentially life-threatening blood clots, while also connecting with mentors and venture capital resources through the Ain Foundry.

Computer science and business double major Guruansh Kohli is building AI-powered drone inspection technology. He credits a course taught by Simon adjunct faculty member Scott Walker with helping shape DroneGurus, an AI-powered drone inspection startup, while mentorship and customer discovery through the Ain Foundry helped the company gain traction beyond the classroom.
