Curious about life in Rochester, NY? You’ve come to the right place. Here’s my list of “can’t miss” activities I recommend when I talk to prospective students about living and studying in Rochester.

1. Visit one of our famous museums.

Do you love the arts, photography, and want to learn more about the city’s history? Then head on over to the University of Rochester's Memorial Art Gallery and George Eastman Museum! All it takes is a quick shuttle ride from campus to visit either of these museums. Use your student ID to visit the MAG for free and the George Eastman Museum for just $9.

2. Find your next thrifted treasure.

Love sustainable fashion? Check out the Lucky Flea Market on Sundays at The Grove! Various vendors come together to sell cool vintage finds, handmaid accessories, and more.

3. Discover amazing vendors and buy organic groceries.

If you’re a foodie, the Rochester Public Market will be your best friend. Located on Union Street and open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Rochester Public Market is the perfect opportunity to visit street vendors and buy groceries from local farmers.

4. Try out an escape room.

Visit The Great Escape Room on University Ave to test your problem-solving and teamwork skills. There are three different escape rooms offered along with a scavenger room, so there is something for everyone!

5. Grab some coffee.

Take a trip to the many coffee shops throughout the city. Check out Cafe Sasso on Park Ave for amazing coffee and delicious sandwiches—and make sure to try out their lavender matchas, even if you’re not a tea person! My other recommendations are Java’s Cafe and Ugly Duck Coffee.

6. Explore the food scene.

Treat yourself to some amazing dining thanks to the many restaurants offered in Rochester. Walk down Park Ave and visit Vern’s, Dorado, or Roux for Italian, Mexican, or French cuisine. Other suggestions include The Owl House (great for vegans, vegetarians, or those with other dietary restrictions), Redd (New American), Velvet Belly (Seafood), and Cure (French).

7. Unwind in a smash room.

Let out your exam season stress with your friends! iSmash Rochester in Henrietta offers smash rooms, splatter paint rooms, and axe throwing.

Bonus Suggestion:

Take advantage of the warm weather in early fall and late spring by taking a drive to Durand Eastman Beach or Ontario Beach Park. Lay on the beach and soak up the sunshine, go swimming, or take photos of the stunning sunsets, the choice is up to you!
